what is sunhacks?
Founded in 2018, sunhacks is an annual hackathon (technology ideathon, coding marathon, software/hardware prototyping marathon, etc) based out of Arizona State University. Designed to support students of all skills levels in their personal development, sunhacks also facilitates workshops, mentorship by working professionals, connection with the broader tech community, and a peer-based community of practice oriented towards helping students mutually succeed and achieve their goals.

what is a hackathon?
A hackathon is a 24–36 hour prototyping event where you build a software or hardware project. Hacking hours for sunhacks 9.0 will be announced with the schedule.
when and where is sunhacks 9.0?
November 14th–15th, 2026 at Student Pavilion, ASU Tempe Campus.
who can hack?
Students above the age of 18 are welcome, as are recent graduates within one year of graduation. The event is fully in person and may have limited capacity, so register early once registration opens.
do I need a team?
No. You can participate solo or in a team of up to four, and you can find teammates at the event. Every member must register and be listed on the project submission. Each participant may submit only one project.
how much does it cost?
sunhacks is free to attend.
what rules do I need to follow?
All attendees must follow the MLH code of conduct.
what if I don’t know how to code?
You don’t need prior coding experience. Workshops and mentors can help you get started, and no question is too basic.
are there project tracks?
There are no required tracks. You’re free to choose your own software or hardware project.
will there be prizes?
Yes. We’ll share the prize details here when they’re available.
how can I be a mentor?
